Discover the Lore and History of the Coe 21 Universe

Years ago a group of intrepid scientists, explorers, and artists fled the violence, dysfunction, and squabbling of the ancient Core Worlds with the hope of a new beginning. They gambled their futures on a little known star they named New Liberty. When they arrived years later, they were rewarded with nearly a dozen habitable planets around previously uncharted stars. They established colonies and forged a thriving society, built on a foundation of knowledge, innovation, and curiosity. But nothing lasts forever.

The strife of the Core Worlds eventually followed them to the outer reaches of human exploration. The Chapter Pirates from a hostile, nearby system began to raid New Liberty’s most vulnerable outposts and merchant ships. Limited by treaty and Core World threats, the people of New Liberty were forced to develop a creative solution. They founded the New Liberty Guardians.

The Guardians drew from their greatest assets, the dedicated families of their nation. The most humble and capable sons and daughters of the society were sought for this faithful group of sentinels. They were subjected to severe training, and prepared to meet the threat of the Chapter Pirates alone. When they were ready, they were sent to live quietly among the citizens of the outposts and reveal their identities only when the enemy attacked. Coe 21 is the story of one such daughter of New Liberty.

The original founders of New Liberty were a diverse group of intrepid scientists, artists, and explorers, who represented every planet in the Core Worlds. They banded together with one common goal. They wanted a fresh beginning, a fresh beginning away from the Core Worlds.

The Core Worlds were comprised of 60 planets settled by humans and joined together under a central government. For centuries the government alternated between dysfunction and oppression. It was during one of the dysfunctional phases that a handful of scientists managed to wrangle a charter through the bureaucracy to start their own autonomous colony

They called themselves the New Liberty Company and these scientists were in possession of a big secret. They knew of a newly identified star system that held a habitable world. It also had neighbors that might have more. And equally as important, it was sufficiently far enough from the Core Worlds to establish a truly independent society.

Armed with the charter, the New Liberty Company began obtaining funding and recruits for their new colony. People were meticulously screened, not only for their abilities, but their desire for a new beginning detached from the Core Worlds. Within a year the company had the cadre they needed for their pursuit. In two years their three piloted ships and two supply drones were ready to set sail.

It took four years to reach their destination and when they did, their new world surpassed their wildest expectations. Not only was the planet exactly what they had hoped for. Examination of neighboring star systems revealed nine additional planets and even moons safe for colonization. They would be able to grow and spread out amongst a vast community of star systems.

The group soon landed and named their planet New Liberty after their dream for independence. They established two colonies at opposite ends of the largest landmass in the northern hemisphere. The colonies were named Hope and Halo. Hope, for it was always hope that fueled their expedition, and Halo for the halo that formed around the moon the first night on their new home.

New Liberty’s people built a thriving community. Soon more pre-screened colonists in search of freedom began to arrive from the Core Worlds. They helped to establish new settlements on the abundant planets. The people of New Liberty named the planets after the early explorers of space. New Liberty became the nexus of the new nation. The planets McNair, with her multitude of islands and vast oceans, and Ride, with her abundant natural resources joined New Liberty in establishing centers of learning, art, and trade. They traded with the Core Worlds and worked to bring immigrants to their own cities and beyond to the more challenging environments of the frontier planets.

It is in this nation of planets that Ariana Coe’s story is told. A story to be passed down to the people of New Liberty and her sister worlds, and the young men and women that will one day follow her into the life of a New Liberty Guardian.
